Jennifer Gregorie 354th Fighter Wing Public Affairs EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- "I'm humbled to follow in the footsteps of many great leaders of the 354th. I will do my utmost to live up to the example they have set - to take care of our most precious asset, our people - and never forget why we are here - to fight and support the fight anytime and anywhere," said Col. Jan-Marc Jouas, 354th Fighter Wing commander, during the change of command ceremony Oct. 3. Previously, Jouas was the Special Assistant to the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff. He comes to Eielson with his wife, Marion, and daughter, Jennifer. "General DuLaney, thank you for all you have done to ensure that the combat legacy of the 354th Fighter Wing remains stronger than ever, for safeguarding your people and their families and for the warm welcome and tremendous assistance given to Marion and I during our Eielson transition. The wing's accomplishments are a testament to your leadership and success." Jouas also praised the area's civic leaders for maintaining a strong relationship with the base. "I thank you for your strong and generous support of our people and our programs, and for welcoming our Eielson families into your community." Finally, Jouas thanked the men and women of the 354th FW for their sacrifices to the nation. "This is not an easy time to be in uniform - there are many deployments, personnel shortages, long hours and the ever-present risk of combat operations. Today, I'm proud to stand with you and lead you as we fight the good fight - for our nation, for our future and for our children - so that the world they inherit will be free from terror and tyranny. No cause is nobler, no mission is more important. I know that the Iceman Team is ready." Lt. Gen. Carrol Chandler, 11th Air Force commander, officiated over the ceremony. Brig. Gen. Bob DuLaney, the wing's former commander, left Eielson to become the Director of Plans for the North American Aerospace Defense Command, Peterson AFB, Colo. During the ceremony he was awarded the Legion of Merit, first oak leaf cluster.
