Common PRF Errors

- AFI 36-2402, paragraph 1.4, lists 19 inappropriate evaluator considerations. PLEASE review these and be on the lookout for them on PRFs. We have seen some PRFs with mention of prior promotion recommendations and veiled promotion statements

- Guidance has been sent out concerning the word "senior." The word senior leader cannot be used on a PRF meeting the Maj or Lt Col board. Senior leader is a term used when referring to Cols or higher; therefore can be used on a Lt Col’s PRF meeting the board for Col

- Another message from AFPC went out discussing the role of a senior rater and do not promote recommendations. The idea here is that the senior leader is writing the PRF based on performance and performance based potential. If the senior leader is aware that an individual does not want to be promoted, it is not the role of the senior leader to express this in the PRF. AFPC would prefer members notify the Central Selection Board with a letter

- We have received some PRFs that recommended the wrong level of Professional Military Education. ISS is for individuals going to Maj and SSS is for Lt Cols and Cols

- Punctuation problems are common. When using quotation marks with other punctuation, the comma and period are always inside the closing quotation marks; the semicolon is always placed outside the closing quotation marks; the dash, exclamation mark, and question mark are placed according to the structure of the sentence (reference Tongue and Quill)

- Typos and misspellings are common. Please double check the PRF for lines that may have dropped off. Oftentimes, we find the last part of a job description has dropped off the PRF

- Incorrect board ID

- No group size entered

- Senior rater’s names misspelled or social security number wrong

- Misquoted quotes (for example, an OPR says "75 to 100 troops" and the PRF says "over 100 troops"

- BPZ is the appropriate term vice BTZ

- Bullets not lined up. Double bullets are spaced over, not directly beneath main bullet
